Here are our suggestions of things to do in Los Angeles this weekend…
LA Film Festival
Every year, the non-profit arts organization Film Independent showcases some of the best up-and-coming filmmakers from around the globe at the annual LA Film Festival. If you’re trying to break into Hollywood, it’s an opportunity to take advantage of filmmaker-focused classes and coffee talks, but for the rest of us, the LA Film Fest means lots and lots of movie screenings. This year’s LA Film Festival lineup includes 56 feature films, 58 short films and 13 short episodic works from 28 different countries.

Composer Alan Menken will start out the show with a medley of his stable of Disney hits. Los Angeles Bread Festival
Basking in its second year of carb-filled glory, the Los Angeles Bread Festival is descending upon LA’s Grand Central Market for a two-day tasting fest of unabashed bread guzzling. We can already smell the loaves fresh out the oven. Try one-time-only menu offerings from GCM’s staple vendors like cornbread from Horse Thief BBQ, flatbread specials from Madcarpa, handmade tortillas from Chiles Secos and “butter flights” from DTLA Cheese (the perfect pairing to your burgeoning bread basket). The food fest will also house a pop-up marketplace showcasing local SoCal makers like Grist & Toll, Superba Food + Bread, Antigua Artisan Bread and Spread the Love. Basically, a smorgasbord of bread wizards and jam and nut butter purveyors. But there’s more than just eating going down at GCM this June. The festival is welcoming a host of how-to workshops like “Feel the Churn Butter Aerobics” and Sourdough Starter 10.
